Cylinder of Engagement
Everything you do, you can do better when you are in an enhanced, focused mental state. This process will assist you to program your subconscious to create an enhanced state on demand to produce more positive results. The process involves what is referred to as, "The Cylinder of Engagement." The method consists of recalling a compelling experience, bringing up the feelings of that experience, enhancing those feelings and memorizing them. The Cylinder of Engagement becomes an anchor that will, with practice, instantly feed your mind with the associated feelings and the strategy accompanying those feelings.
When you are seeing in your mind’s eye (imagining or visualizing), the process must be done in a fully associated state in which you actually recall and feel the emotions related to the event. You will be seeing, hearing and feeling the experience as if from out of your own eyes. You do not see yourself in the picture. (Refer to Imagery and Visualization)
The Technique
Stand at attention; assume a powerful mental, physical and spiritual stance with your chin up, shoulders back, stomach in. Relax and close your eyes, slowly take three deep breaths. Take a moment and recall a time when you had great confidence and felt great personal power. Now feel your most powerful memory of confidence and self-esteem building in your body: feel it, feel the power of it, and enhance the power. See yourself more and more powerful, full of confidence. Enhance the confidence. Feel that you can do anything!
Now imagine that in front of you, within a couple of steps, there is a circle on the floor. You realize that this circle represents the base of a cylinder that reaches far up into the heavens. It is your Cylinder of Engagement. This cylinder draws on the energy and power of the universe. See the cylinder in your mind’s eye. Now step forward and into the cylinder. Feel your power and confidence becoming much stronger and much more powerful. Feel it! Feel the energy of the universe entering your body. Twice as strong, ten times stronger, absorb it. Now, take a moment to relax with the new confidence and memorize it. Now step out of the cylinder and save the powerful feeling of confidence there. Relax and break that thought.
Now, standing outside and in front of the cylinder, step back into the cylinder and immediately feel the power of confidence coming back to you, even stronger than before, getting more and more powerful, and you are feeling more and more comfortable with this confidence. Feel the energy of the universe entering your body. You are experiencing more confidence than you have felt in a long time. Take a moment to again relax with this confidence and memorize it again. Now step out of the cylinder and leave the powerful feeling of confidence there. Relax and break that thought.

You may want to repeat this process of stepping into the cylinder up to seven times to start. Practice this daily until you see a marked improvement in your natural confidence responses. After reasonable practised you will find that you can create your Cylinder of Engagement instantly, anywhere you wish at any time and for any purpose.
Once comfortable with the process you may wish to expand on the exercise with a variety of practices. Create your cylinder. Now, step into the cylinder and immediately feel the power of confidence coming back to you, even stronger than before. Feel the energy of the universe entering your body. Getting more and more powerful and you are feeling more and more comfortable with this confidence. Take a moment now to place yourself in a normal everyday situation. See the event. Feel yourself engaged in regular activities with full confidence. You may wish to experience a new situation, possibly being interviewed for a promotion, a new job or speaking before a group with this power and confidence. For each event, memorize the enhanced feelings again. Step out of the cylinder and leave the powerful feeling of confidence there.
This process may be adapted for a range of situations. With practice, this Cylinder of Engagement process will create a powerful, focussed, balanced mental state at your will and call. If you are on a diet, you can practice entering your diet cylinder, and enhancing your discipline and will power to stick to your diet. If you formerly had a problem with anger, you can use this process to fill a cylinder with anger response techniques, so that when you become angry you enter your cylinder and instantly cool down and relax.
Use your imagination. This Cylinder of Engagement process is a powerful skill. If you have ever experienced something, you can recall the memory and enhance it in your cylinder for that purpose.
Later, when appropriate, you can recall the cylinder. Step in and feed yourself with fresh energy and assistance. You can use this process for motivation, sports enhancement, creativity, writing exams, etc., by recalling an appropriate compelling experience and enhancing the emotions associated with the event, and the strategies you have in memory which accompany the skill you want to use.
If you have not had an experience similar to the experience you wish to practice, imagine it. View an individual whom you have great admiration and respect for and imagine that individual going through the experience. Imagine how they would accomplish it. Now imagine yourself in their shoes fully experiencing that situation. Practice this.
With continued Cylinder of Engagement practice, the focus of confidence and motivation you develop will begin to operate automatically when appropriate. It will replace any previous negative habit, doubt or fear which formerly activated automatically when you found yourself facing anxiety-producing situations.
EXERCISE # 13. Complete the Cylinder of Engagement technique to develop an enhanced state; then select a beneficial state which can be useful to you and practice developing that state. Make this a new skill.
